The Gospel Rising Music Festival is coming to Dublin City centre for the first time from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th May. Promising to be the biggest Gospel Rising Festival yet, visitors are guaranteed a social, fun and energetic weekend made up of workshops and gigs showcasing Ireland’s many talented gospel choirs! Taking place in a number of venues across North Dublin City, the Festival aims to spread the joy and positivity of singing with others. Leading Irish and international choral experts will facilitate workshops in gospel choir music, teaching every aspect of this genre of music, from performance styles, choreography, soloist techniques, to harmonising and a Capella. These workshops are open to anyone, whether you’re already in a choir or just partial to a song in the shower, the workshops are tailored for every skill and confidence level, so everyone will feel part of the sessions and comfortable to sing along. Individual Workshop tickets start from €25 or Full Weekend Festival tickets are available at €75 from GospelRising.com, these will provide access to workshops and performances throughout the weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Events begin with a group workshop on Friday evening at 8pm, while Saturday 18th will be filled with singing workshops all day and an evening concert that night in St Francis Xavier’s Church, Gardiner St, featuring Discovery Gospel Choir, Gardiner St Gospel Choir, Bray Gospel Choir, SUSO Gospel Choir & Virgina Gospel Choir, tickets for just this concert are also available from €14. Sunday will host morning gospel services in Churches in the Dublin 1 area. The weekend’s flagship event, is Super Soul Sunday, taking place in Mounjoy Square Park from 1pm to 5pm, this is a free event, with plenty of gospel music performances, workshops, dancing and children’s entertainment. Performances will include Ardú Vocal Ensemble, Dublin Gospel Choir, Shannon Gospel Choir, Sandymount Gospel Choir and many more. The workshops are open to the whole community, one specifically for young people, one for the whole community as a short taster gospel choir music experience and the final workshop, which is a ticketed session is run by members of The Delorentos. Now in it’s tenth year, the Gospel Rising Music Festival, supported by NEIC, is organised and run entirely by volunteers, most of whom are active members of gospel choirs across Ireland.
