Science Week 2017 runs from 12th-19th of November and this year the Museum has plenty of fun for families, school tours, science nuts and tourists alike.

Monday 13th| Augmented Reality in The Science Area

One of our staff members will be on hand to teach visitors all about how we use Augmented Reality to turn our Science & Discovery Area into an interactive classroom. This will feature usage of the Augmented Reality App Wax Magic, and our staff member will be on hand to discuss the process of creating the app and giving live demonstrations for visitors.

Tuesday 14th| What can Irish Lakes tell us about Climate Change?

“What can Irish lakes tell us about Climate Change”. Dr Evelyn Keaveney of Queens University will be giving a presentation on how climate change affects the world and what carbon dating can tell us.

Wednesday 15th | 3D Technology: When Science meets Wax

One staff member will give a demonstration to visitors of the 3D scanning process. We will also have 3D printed prototypes on display for visitors to take a photo with.

Thursday 16th | Experiments in the Name of Science

Visitors will be astounded by science experiments on display on Thursday. Specific details of this event TBC

Friday 17th | “Ancient Ireland: Discoveries beneath our feet”

Dr Rowan McLaughlin of Queen’s University will give a talk on “Ancient Ireland: discoveries beneath our feet. ”Dr McLaughlin is a research fellow of the School of Natural and Built Environment who has published many articles on the neolithic and bronze age.
